The internet is a great tool. It educates. It entertains. It is a part of our daily lives. Most of us cannot remember what life was like before it came along. But the internet can be a very negative place, a very dangerous place, a very ugly place, a very toxic place. There are sooooo many negative people on the internet. If you don’t believe me check out a lot of the message boards and comment sections on various blogs. Just really hateful, mean spirited, toxic stuff. And I would venture to say that most of these people hide behind their computers and type such negative, toxic things because they feel small and powerless in the real world. Most of these people would never have the courage to say the things they say online in real life. I used to go on a local site to get the news and I would go to the comment section and EVERY single day it would turn into a racial debate. The subject could be about planting cabbage and it would turn to name calling, stereotyping and a whole lot of nonsense. I got so tired of it. I stopped going to news sites, gossip sites or any site that is a breeding ground for negativity. It is easy to get sucked into it. I am guilty of getting sucked into it a time or two. But no more. I hide “friends” on Facebook/Twitter who are constantly negative or toxic in with their posts. I try to go to more uplifting sites these days and learn about new things such as gardening, natural foods/products or look up new lip shades I want to try;) and when I am not doing that, I try to go out into the sunshine, into the real world to see some of the beautiful things that are there every day.

The Net can be Toxic

I am writing this post because I know there is somebody out there like me who is going to google this, hell I did. There is somebody out there who went out last night on a romantic date to a nice restaurant and ordered the prime rib, roasted garlic potatoes and asparagus spears. Maybe went dancing, had a few drinks and went back to his place and……….woke up the next day and went to the bathroom and said what the??? And got scared that something in the milk wasn’t clean. You can relax.

In the movie Forrest Gump, there is a scene in the movie when Jenny dies and he goes to talk to her at her gravesite under this big tree (Every time I watch this scene, I boo hoo my eyes out). He talks to her about whether life is built upon one’s Destiny or if life is more random “like a box of chocolates you never know what you are gonna get”. Like Forrest says in the movie, I think it is a little of both. I believe in Destiny and this is based on my spiritual beliefs. To not believe that there is some purpose or higher meaning to life would just blow my mind and what would be the purpose then? But I also believe our lives are driven and directed by our choices(good or bad), the decisions we make and do not make, who we choose to love etc. Then there are things like Murphy’s Law, bad luck and times when Shit (just) Happens.
So, do you believe your Life is based on Destiny? The friends you have, your parents, your spouse, your children, do you believe they were “meant” to be in your life? Or do you believe that Life just is…?
Smile a while for me Sarah
Everyone I know is running home to see this debate like it’s the Super Bowl. I wonder if she is gonna stink like this fish she’s holding. If it is anything like her Katie Couric interview, God help us. Tonight there will be no teleprompter, no script. Sarah’s gotta freestyle! Hopefully Ole Joe will hold it together and let her make herself look bad and judging by her previous interviews, that ain’t hard to do. One hour, four minutes and counting….gotta go get my popcorn and soda.
I’m Bringing Sexy Back
I remember years ago hearing someone say that California is the land of fruits and nuts. And they weren’t talking about agriculture either. They were meaning that people out west are a little… “off“. I have also heard people say that Northerners are rude and pushy. And I think we have all heard the stereotypes about Southern people being stupid and/or racist. I myself am guilty. I have often said that I find people in Georgia (in general) to be more close minded, judgmental and clannish. I am from the west coast (yes, the land of the fruits and nuts:) and feel like people are more free in their ideas and more open minded out West than people from the South. But I have heard from others who have moved here, that they find Georgians to be friendly and find it refreshing to be greeted with a good morning on the street. The interesting part about Georgia, or Atlanta rather, is that most people who live here are from somewhere else.
So does geography really make a difference in people’s behaviors and attitudes? Are Californians really more laid back? Are New Yorkers really rude as hell? Are Southerners more mannerable? Are Midwesterners really different from people in Florida? Does what region people live in really shape who they are? Or, are people just people wherever you go?
